Richard DeNapoli, who announced on Monday his intention to run for the House District 74 seat, has received endorsements from two GOP state representatives. Rep. Ray Pilon, R-Sarasota, and Rep. George Moraitis, R-Fort Lauderdale, both tipped their hats and are showing their support for DeNapoli.

News broke on Tuesday that Rep. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, who served almost two decades in both chambers of the Florida Legislature, will be appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to fill the vacant office of Pasco County tax collector. The post has been vacant since the death of Mike Olson. While Fasano often broke with the Republican leadership in Tallahassee, the GOP is praising him as he plans to leave the House.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clintons status as the overwhelming favorite for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 was confirmed in a poll released on Tuesday. Clinton topped a national Rasmussen Reports poll with 63 percent. Vice President Joe Biden placed a distant second with 12 percent. Gov. Andrew Cuomo of New York took third with 5 percent. Former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles took 3 percent while Newark Mayor Cory Booker, who announced at the end of last month he would not run, and Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley garnered 1 percent each.

Last August, conservative leader Kim Kendall came up short in her attempt to defeat Rep. Doc Renuart, R-Ponte Vedra Beach, in the Republican primary for a Florida House seat representing parts of the First Coast. Chris Latvala, the son of Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, declared Monday he would run for the Florida House. Today I begin my candidacy for the Florida House, District 67, Chris Latvala posted on Twitter. Latavla is running for the Florida House seat currently held by Rep. Ed Hooper, R-Clearwater, who faces term limits in 2014. Two other Republicans -- Christoper Shepard and Frederick Thompson -- are already running for the seat which represents parts of Pinellas County.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, agreed to a televised debate with executive director of the Dream Defenders Phillip Agnew to discuss Florida's Stand Your Ground law. Agnew challenged Gaetz to a debate via Twitter on Sunday after he read news reports saying Gaetz wouldn't support changing the self-defense law. Gaetz has been particularly vocal about his stance on Stand Your Ground and was chosen by House Speaker Will Weatherford to hold a hearing on the controversial law in the fall. On Sunday evening, Agnew tweeted the following to Gaetz:

The Campaign for Liberty, a group chaired by former Congressman Ron Paul, is going all out to audit the Federal Reserve. Paul launched the Audit the Fed bill and, while he is no longer serving in Congress, more than 150 congressmen are currently sponsoring the legislation.

A new poll by Rasmussen Reports shows Americans are divided on whether their state should have its own health care exchange, but nearly half of voters want their governor to oppose President Obama's health care law. The poll found that 40 percent of likely U.S. voters want their governor to support implementation of the health care law in their state, but nearly half -- 48 percent -- instead want their governor to oppose implementation. Support for implementation of the health care law is down a point from the previous survey conducted in June.

Former Congressman Allen West went to bat on Monday for the Young Marines, a program being run by the Bossier Parrish sheriffs office in Louisiana. The Young Marines were threatened with having federal funds cut off due to their inclusion of prayers in their activities. The Foundation gave the Young Marines $2,000.

Freshman Republican Rep. Trey Radel of Florida took a poke on the chin Monday morning in a story in the Daily Caller on the handful of congressmen who want to dump summer vacation, stay in Washington and get things done. Radel, who lives in Fort Myers, has unbreakabe plans at home, apparently.

On Monday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., joined an amicus brief for Town of Greece v. Galloway, a religious liberty case which the Supreme Court of the United States will soon take up. A federal appeals court ruled having a prayer at town board meetings violated the Constitution. Rubio joins more than 30 Republican senators and U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., in filing the amicus brief.
