Tony Bennett's Chief of Staff Resigns

Former Commissioner of Education Tony Bennett resigned last week, and one of his top aides, Dale Chu, has left office as well.

Chu resigned from his post as chief of staff on Friday and worked closely with Bennett while he was the schools superintendent in Indiana. Chu was a member of Bennett's staff who received emails discussing the grade change of Christel House. Christel House was founded by big-time Republican donor Christel DeHaan, who has funneled over $2 million to the Republican Party in the past 15 years.

Bennett came under fire last week when the Associated Press reported he had changed the grade of Christel House as a result of political influence. Bennett continuously denied any wrongdoing and fully acknowledged that he changed the school's grade, but denied doing so out of political motivation.

Pam Stewart will serve as interim commissioner of education until a permanent replacement is chosen.
