House Tosses Revamped Redistricting Plan Back to Senate

House lawmakers voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to approve a redistricting plan for the state Senate, setting up the delicate endgame for a three-week special session called to finally bring Florida's political boundaries into line with a voter-approved ban on gerrymandering.

Martin County, Ground Zero for damaging Lake Okeechobee discharges during excessively rainy periods, contracted the with LaPointe and Florida International University's Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute to assess how damaging septic tanks are to the St. Lucie River and estuary.

With 2016 around the corner, the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) will be hosting the Sunshine Summit in Orlando from Nov. 12-Nov. 14 and the stakes will be high. The presidential hopefuls will take most of the spotlight but there’s another important race already taking shape as Rubio has said he will not run for a second Senate term. Florida Republicans Ron DeSantis, David Jolly, Carlos Lopez-Cantera and Todd Wilcox are already off and running and they will be at the Sunshine Summit trying to win support for their Senate bids.

With the presidential race in full swing, a new poll shows few Florida voters are paying much attention to the race to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2016. Currently running for the Republican presidential nomination, Rubio has said he will not run a second term in the Senate.
