Darren Soto to Join Dinner Supporting Immigration Programs

Sen. Darren Soto will be meeting with an immigrant advocacy organization to talk about immigrant action programs and how they will affect immigrant families in the Sunshine State. 

On April 10, Soto will join the Young American Dreamers as part of a nationwide set of dinners to speak with five Florida families the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and the Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA), a planned immigration program which would give deferred action to the parents of children who are either native American citizens or are lawful permanent residents of the United States. 

Conservation Efforts Pay Off for Florida Green Sea Turtles

Environmental news in Florida rarely gives us something we can cheer. Finally, happily, an exception.

Two federal agencies Tuesday issued a final rule that will revise the listing for green sea turtles under the Endangered Species Act, including reclassifying the breeding population  originating from Florida, from endangered to threatened.

Green sea turtles breeding along the Pacific coast of Mexico are also included in the upgrade.

A group of state lawmakers launched an initiative Tuesday to educate voters on a proposed constitutional amendment that would give commercial property owners a tax break on renewable-energy devices similar to one given to residential property owners.

Ken Sukhia Endorsed by Bill Grant

Former U.S. Rep. Bill Grant, R-Fla., best known for his unsuccessful challenge of U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla.,  back in 1992, endorsed former United States Attorney Ken Sukhia for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., the daughter of his old foe.

Gov. Rick Scott continued to reshape his team on Tuesday, naming Kevin Reilly as legislative affairs director while William Spicola takes over as general counsel. Reilly and Spicola start their new duties on Wednesday.

Two South Florida Republicans teamed up this week to showcase a resolution urging school districts, colleges and universities and various youth athletic associations to “regularly update their pre-participation physical examination policies, in accordance with evidence-based best practices, and with respect for special parental considerations.”

Florida House Speaker Steve Crisafulli, R-Merritt Island, threw his support behind Lt. Gov. Carlos  Lopez-Cantera for the Republican nomination to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.
