Florida Lawmakers Get Graded on Commitment to Education

Like any students in Florida’s education system, Florida lawmakers received their own set of grades for their commitment to education issues during the 2016 legislative session. 

On Monday, the Jeb Bush-backed Foundation for Florida’s Future unveiled its annual Education Report Card, which grades both House and Senate members on an A-F scale for their commitment to improving education and expanding opportunities for students in the Sunshine State. 

Twenty lawmakers made the cut for this year's report including a variety of legislators from the house and senate. 

New Law Will Send More Money to Ports

More money will be floated yearly to the state's 15 seaports under a wide-ranging transportation bill signed into law Monday by Gov. Rick Scott.

The measure (HB 7027) boosts the minimum annual funding for the Florida Seaport Transportation and Economic Development program --- administered by the Florida Ports Council --- from $15 million to $25 million.

Ileana Ros-Lehtinen Takes Aim at Obama on Iran

From her perch as chairwoman of the U.S. House Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., fired away at reports that the Obama administration is planning to let foreign governments and international banks use American currency in transactions with Iran.

Republican Candidates Headed to RLC Forum, Straw Poll in Viera

Republican candidates will be converging on the Space Coast on Sunday to face the voters in a forum hosted by the Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida (RLCCEF) with Sunshine State News playing a major role. 

RLCCEF Chairman Bob White announced over the weekend that two Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls--U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., and businessman and Army veteran Todd Wilcox--will attend the forum in Viera. There will also be a straw poll for the Republican nomination to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and for state legislative races.

Eagle Forum PAC endorsed Tallahassee attorney Mary Thomas for the Republican nomination to take on U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla.
