PBA Backs John Thrasher

Facing a tough challenge from Dr. Charles Perniciaro for the Republican nomination, Sen. John Thrasher, R-Jacksonville, announced on Tuesday that he was being endorsed by the Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA). The winner of the Republican primary will face former news anchor Deborah Gianoulis, the Democratic candidate, in November.

The campaign trail took a number of prominent politicians to South Florida on Tuesday. U.S. Senate candidates Gov. Charlie Crist and U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek spoke to the Florida Sheriff's Association 2010 Annual Summer Conference in Fort Lauderdale. So did Republican gubernatorial primary candidate Rick Scott. Meek later spoke to the United Democratic Club of Century Village in West Palm Beach

Democrats on Paying Taxes: Do as We Say, Not as We Do

With the fall elections fast approaching, Democrats are taking heat for stalling on taxes. If the Democratic-controlled Congress does not act by Dec. 31, the effect will be a $115 billion tax increase next year.

Amid intensifying pressure, however, some prominent Democrats remain tone-deaf -- and delinquent -- when it comes to taxes. To wit:

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., avoided paying $500,000 in taxes on his yacht.
Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., failed to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in assets to the IRS.

Small-Business Administration Boss Visits Jacksonville to Tout 10 New Jobs

SBA Administrator Karen Mills is in Jacksonville today to visit A. Harold and Associates where owner Andy Harold received two federal Recovery Act loans and created 10 new jobs.

"Thanks to fees eliminated by the Recovery Act, Harold saved more than $33,000 in waived loan costs," an SBA news release stated. Harold is a service-disabled veteran and current reservist who runs a technology, education, engineering, training and management service for both public and private sectors.

Jeff Greene Hits Kendrick Meek in Two New Commercials

A day after U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek ran his first commercial, attacking Jeff Greene, his leading rival for the nod, in the bitter contest for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate,the Greene campaign fired back by unleashing two commercials against Meek on Tuesday.

Greene took a page from the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), who included Meek among a list of the most crooked politicians running for office.
