Grayson in Denial: Can't Believe He's Lost 20 Points in CD 8

Pooh-poohing a Sunshine State News Poll that shows him trailing Republican Daniel Webster by 7 points, Rep. Alan Grayson declared today, "I'm winning."

In an interview with TalkingPointsMemo.com, the first-term congressman sounded incredulous that he could be losing after his earlier internal campaign poll showed him ahead of Webster 13 points.

"I don't know how anybody could possibly believe we've dropped 20 points," the Orlando Democrat mused.

Campus Immigration Rights Groups Won’t Give up on DREAM Act

Immigration rights groups around the country are keeping up their efforts to revive the DREAM Act, the legislation that would allow immigrants to become citizens after spending two years in college or the military, even though it went down in flames last week.

Another Vet Group Endorses in CD 22; VFW PAC Lines Up for Klein

The battle for veterans' votes in Florida's 22nd Congressional District intensified today, as Rep. Ron Klein claimed the endorsement of the VFW PAC.

On Thursday, Klein, D-Boca Raton, landed the support of Veterans and Military Families for Progress.

The VFW PAC said it backed Klein "based on (his) strong support for veterans, national security and defense, and military personnel issues.

Both endorsements were dismissed by Klein's Republican opponent, retired Army Lt. Col. Allen West.

Charlie Crist Eats One Meal a Day

In an interview with a South Florida TV station Friday afternoon, a reporter asked Gov. Charlie Crist how he keeps fit.

He told the reporter he exercises regularly, and eats only one meal a day.

"You don't even snack?" asked the reporter.

"I did today." Crist responded. "Sometimes I break the normal routine,"

Florida earned the highest combined grade on a new national education report card, and researchers said reform-minded Republican leaders deserve some of the credit.

Dan Gelber Takes Aim at 'Pill Mills'

Sen. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach campaigned in Republican rival Pam Bondis backyard on Friday. In front of the Hillsborough County Courthouse in Tampa, Gelber took aim at pill mills.

Prescription-drug abuse in Florida has become an epidemic, largely fueled by pill mills and doctor shopping, said Gelber, who noted that a bill he sponsored on the matter took effect on Friday. As attorney general, I intend to shut these operations down through aggressive enforcement, coordination with local government and law enforcement, and strong, common-sense regulation.

AG Candidates Fight for Attention

The two leading candidates in the close contest to become Floridas next attorney general scrambled Friday to gain attention from voters who are focused on other races -- including the tight gubernatorial race, the dramatic U.S. Senate battle and several interesting congressional contests.

Rasmussen Poll: Scott 46, Sink 41

Rasmussen Reports released a survey of 750 likely voters that shows Republican candidate Rick Scott edging state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic candidate, in the gubernatorial contest. Scott pulled 46 percent while Sink carried 41 percent. The poll occurred on Sept. 30 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

Pam Bondi Brings Out Law Enforcement Backing

Former Assistant State Attorney Pam Bondi, the Republican candidate for attorney general, unveiled the backing of 25 current and former sheriffs on Friday. These sheriffs included Kevin Rambosk of Collier County, David Gee of Hillsborough County, Larry Campbell of Leon County,Jim Coats of Pinellas County, Grady Judd of Polk County, Tom Knight of Sarasota County and David Shoar of St. Johns County.
