Who knew Sarah Palin and Nancy Pelosi had so much in common? As partisan politicians who shore up their respective party bases, the former Alaska governor and the U.S. House speaker are mirror images -- in reverse.
The campaign team of Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running in the U.S. Senate election, posted a poem written by James Tokley, the poet laureate of Tampa, entitled The Peoples Independent.
What Party is Democracy

Reconstruct the name they claim?
What politic shall we ascribe
To the words of F. Scott Key,

With less than a month to go until the general election, the dynamics are changing in the election for the U.S. Senate seat. U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, the Democratic candidate in the race, is turning his fire away from NPA-candidate Charlie Crist, and onto Republican candidate Marco Rubio, the front-runner in the race.
The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) launched a new television commercial on Tuesday attacking state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee for governor. The commercial focuses on banks that Sink worked for -- and the fraud charges they faced.
Alex Sinks bank was fined millions for deceptive sales practices in her own bank branches and she claims she didnt know they were going on, said Dan Conston, a spokesman for the RPOF. In 2008 Florida's pension system, fourth largest in the country, was 100 percent funded. In fact Florida was one of only four states in such an enviable position.
No longer.
A consulting actuary for Milliman, Inc., told the Florida Retirement System Actuarial Assumption Estimating Conference Monday that the state is good for only 87.9 percent of the money it promised its retirees -- that's a worsened number, down from 89.3 percent last year.

Florida's public school officials complain about tight budgets, but even a recession didn't keep districts from adding staff.
While the Sunshine State was losing population and shedding jobs in record numbers, school systems filled 10,985 new positions between 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.
The figures compiled by the National Center for Education Statistics reveal that K-12 employment rose from 329,726 to 340,711.
