Obama Administration About to Lift Ban on Deep-Water Oil Drilling

Though it's too late for some drilling operations, the Obama administration is on the brink of announcing an end to its ban on deep-water oil drilling.

Carter Rolle, in the office of Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, told Sunshine State News Tuesday, "The key to getting us to this point is the new safety rules, rules that should have been in place before the Deepwater Horizon accident." He said he expects the ban-lifting announcement to come just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Carey Baker Takes Aim at Judges Who Killed Anti-Obamacare Measure

Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustis, one of the backers of the Health Care Freedom Act which was removed from the November ballot, is retaliating -- targeting Justices Jorge Labarga and James Perry for removal from the state Supreme Court. The measure, which would have been Amendment 9 had it been on the ballot, would have given Floridians the right to opt out of President Barack Obama's new federal health-care measures.

Q Poll Shows a Dead Heat in Governor's Race; Independents Shift?

Republican Rick Scott leads Democrat Alex Sink by a single percentage point in Florida's hotly contested gubernatorial race, a new Quinnipiac Poll showed today.

The poll has Scott up 45-44 -- closely mirroring the 44-42 margin he held in a Sunshine State News Poll last week. Both survey results were within the statistical margin of error.

Independent voters appear to be shifting the race. Independents, who backed Scott 46-40 at the start of the month, now support Sink 51-34.
