Ron Paul: I'll Decide Soon on a Presidential Run
Saying he will decide in the next month whether to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, spoke to the Tallahassee media Thursday during his visit to the capital to promote his new book, "Liberty Defined: 50 Essential Issues That Affect Our Freedom."
Paul was a Libertarian candidate in 1988. He came in second in 10 GOP primaries and caucuses and placed third in 17 of them in 2008. He said he will consider running and reveal his decision in the next month.

Rep. Dennis Baxley chairs the Criminal Justice Subcommittee, where he is leading the Republican charge to reform Florida's sprawling criminal justice system.
"We want to go from being tough on crime, to being right on crime," said Baxley, whose committee bills are focusing on substance abuse, mental health and recidivism.

A new poll shows a majority of likely voters in Florida support efforts to cut all federal funding for Planned Parenthood, the nation's leading abortion provider.
Viewpoint Florida found that 54 percent of respondents want subsidies stopped while 38 percent oppose a cutoff.

Staging their stunt of the week, Florida public-employee unions called on members Thursday to withdraw funds from five banks in protest of labor-reform legislation.
The unions, representing some 20,000 workers, targeted Bank of America, PNC Bank, Regions Bank, SunTrust and Wachovia, whose executives sit on the Florida Chamber of Commerce board of directors. The Chamber is among the leading business groups lobbying to end payroll withholding of union dues by government agencies.
Loophole in Law Lets Lobbyists Dodge Disclosure at SFWMD
The South Florida Water Management District uses a loophole in state law to avoid requiring lobbyists to register and disclose who hired them, which officials they seek to influence and how much they are being paid.
None of the states five water management districts requires special-interest lobbyists to register before they contact board members and staff about big money contracts, environmental permits or other important matters involving public policy.
