Scott Removes Madison Democratic Elections Supervisor, School Board Member in Vote Fraud Case

Visitors to Madison County Supervisor of Elections website Thursday are still greeted by the smiling face of Supervisor of Elections Jada Woods Williams.

The Democrat, who earned a degree in political science from Valdosta State University, was first elected to the countywide office in 2006.

However, Williams, along with Madison County School Board member Abra Hill "Tina" Johnson, are no longer in office, by order of Gov. Rick Scott.

Senate President Mike Haridopolos tipped his hand and opened the floodgates for gaming lobbyists on Wednesday.

Echoing Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, co-author of a "destination" casino bill, Senate President Mike Haridopolos said that if Florida adds casinos, "We're going to do it the right way."

For those unfamiliar with political-speak, that translates into "C'mon on down!"

In a sarcastic and revealing remark, the Merritt Island Republican said, "For those who haven't heard, we already have gaming."

But a work group said meaningful remedies remain elusive as various, often competing, interests hold their ground and shift blame to others in a scheme that is costing legitimate business hundreds of millions of dollars in higher premiums.

Governor (Not Rick Scott) Wants to Raise Teacher Retirement Age to 67

They say the future happens first in California. If so, Florida teachers should brace for another hit.

California Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, wants to raise the public employee retirement age for Golden State employees to 67.

"Sixty-seven is kind of advanced," grumped California Teachers Association spokesman Frank Wells, commenting on the plan floated by the 73-year-old governor.

Imagine the outcry here if Republican Gov. Rick Scott even considered such a proposal. But, in fact, Florida is edging that way.

Florida to Accept YouTube, Twitter, Facebook Comments on Redistricting

Redistricting efforts in Florida are going to use social media for public comment.

Senate President-elect Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, said once the proposed committee bills are submitted with the potential new state House, Senate and congressional lines, lawmakers will seek public comment on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, email or mail.

The Florida Channel has agreed to develop an extended presentation of all the input.

The committee will also have a meeting Dec. 6 where residents can provide comment the old-fashioned way: in person.
