Supreme Court Sides with Water Managers over Property 'Takings' Case

In a case watched by developers, environmentalists and government agencies, the Florida Supreme Court on Thursday sided with the St. Johns River Water Management District in a long-running dispute about the "taking" of property.

The dispute stemmed from a district decision in 1994 to deny a permit for a development project to Orange County landowner Coy Koontz.

District officials indicated they would grant the permit if Koontz agreed to conditions that included doing an environmental mitigation project several miles away from his land. Koontz refused and filed a lawsuit.

Amid revelations that the Obama administration considered bailing out the solar company Solyndra, a House subcommittee on Thursday voted to subpoena White House records related to the failed firm's financial and political connections.

Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Ocala, chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Oversight Subcommittee, said the subpoena was necessary because the White House is "slow-walking" all requests for information.

"We want to get to the bottom of this," Stearns said of the bankrupt company that took $528 million in federal loans down with it.

Mitt Romney Gets Backing of Former Sen. Connie Mack

Former U.S. Sen. Connie Mack, whose son and namesake is currently running for the seat that he held for 12 years, is backing former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts for the Republican presidential nomination.

The Romney camp unveiled the endorsement of the elder Mack on Thursday. The team behind Rep. Connie Mack, who endorsed Romney earlier in the year, announced that he would run for the seat his father held from 1989 until 2001.

Casey Anthony-related Bill to Move Forward in Senate

A Caylees bill will move forward in the state Senate that is tied into the summers overly sensationalistic Casey Anthony murder trial in Orlando.

Sen. Joe Negron, R-Stuart, will author a bill by the Select Committee on Protecting Floridas Children that would make it a third-degree felony for any person who provides misleading information to law enforcement during a missing child investigation where the child is later found to have been injured.

Despite Sexual Harassment Claims, Herman Cain Leads GOP 2012 Primary Field

Despite an increasing focus on accusations of sexual harassment leveled against him, businessman Herman Cain tops a Rasmussen Reports poll of likely Republican presidential primary voters released on Thursday.

Cain leads the pack with 26 percent, closely followed by former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts who takes 23 percent. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich stands in third place with 14 percent.
