Newt Gingrich Hammers Obama for 'Unprecedented Assault on Christianity'

January 31, 2012 - 6:00pm

With Mitt Romney now the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich is attacking President Barack Obama for looking to undermine the role of religion in the public square.

Gingrich, who converted to Catholicism in 2009 after growing up Lutheran and joining the Southern Baptist faith at the start of his academic career, slammed Obama in his remarks after finishing second in the Florida primary.

Romney Focus on Economy Key to Florida Victory

January 31, 2012 - 6:00pm

Florida GOP primary winner Mitt Romney dominated in large metro areas along both coasts, the important I-4 corridor and scored big with Hispanics.

The results are a marked improvement over his effort in 2008, when Romney finished second to Gov. Charlie Crist-backed U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who swept the Sunshine States large Central and South Florida counties and Hispanic populations.

January 31, 2012 - 6:00pm

With the presidential campaign leaving the Sunshine State after Florida Republicans voted in the primary Tuesday, some of the spotlight returns to Marco Rubio, who became a conservative star in the 2010 election cycle by defeating then-Gov. Charlie Crist in the U.S. Senate election.

Appearing on Fox News on Tuesday night, Rubio said Mitt Romneys big win in the GOP primary in the Sunshine State would help him if he emerges to take on President Barack Obama in November. Rubio has not endorsed any of the Republican presidential hopefuls.

How Newt Gingrich's Southern Front Flopped in Florida

January 31, 2012 - 6:00pm

Proving that it is less a Southern state and more of a Yankee suburb, Florida awarded former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with a 14-point victory over Newt Gingrich.

Flipping the tables on Gingrich, who carried South Carolina by 12 points just 10 days earlier, Romney piled up huge majorities in Florida's most populous counties.

In Miami-Dade, Romney beat Gingrich 69,653 to 30,394. In Hillsborough, Romney won 43,129 to 25,520 and he carried Broward 35,795 to 22,012.

2010 Part Deux? Bill McCollum and Excessive Campaign Spending

In what could ring as a bit of deja vu for Floridians, former Attorney General Bill McCollum chalked up Newt Gingrich's Florida primary loss to a disadvantage in his campaign war chest. Gingrichs Florida co-chairman told MSNBC's Chuck Todd this morning that Gingrich has the ideas, but he couldn't match up to the Romney camp's spending spree and flurry of negative advertising. Wait, have I heard this before?
