Rick Scott to Sign Budget Tuesday at St. Johns Elementary School

With one of his key priorities having been to increase Pre-K to grade 12 education by $1 billion, Gov. Rick Scott will use an elementary school on Tuesday as the backdrop for signing the 2012-2013 budget.

The governors office announced Monday that Scott will sign the $70 billion budget at noon Tuesday at Cunningham Creek Elementary School in St. Johns.

The signing ceremony, Scotts second, will continue his form of traveling away from the political trappings of Tallahassee to highlight the fiscal package.

Alcee Hastings Draws GOP Foe; Debbie Wasserman Schultz Loses One

After an initial foray into the 23rd Congressional District, Republican Joe Goldner says he is running against Rep. Alcee Hastings in neighboring CD 20.

"I'm staying in 20, no matter what. It's on my petition," said Goldner, who was originally ticketed for a five-way GOP contest to face Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fort Lauderdale.

Goldner said he has gathered the necessary petitions to face Hastings, D-Miramar. "I'm all alone in CD 20," he said.

Domain-gate Furor Spreads as Rivals Demand Return of 'Names' in CD 19

A cyber-squatting congressional candidate who controls nearly two-dozen Internet domain names of Republican rivals is under increasing pressure to release them, or face complaints with the Federal Election Commission.

Sunshine State News, which reported earlier this month that "Friends of Trey Radel" had purchased six website addresses of fellow candidate Chauncey Goss, on Monday obtained an expanded list of domain names owned by Radel's campaign.

Ron Paul Plays Catch-Up Against Mitt Romney

With less than a week to go until five states in the Northeast hold their primaries, Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul is looking to play catch-up on Mitt Romney, the overwhelming favorite in the race for the GOP nomination.

The Paul campaign announced that their candidate will hold events in New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island later this week. Those states -- as well as Connecticut and Delaware -- will hold primaries on Tuesday, April 24.

State Rep. Fred Costello Makes It Official: He's Running in CD 6

State Rep. Fred Costello, R-Ormond Beach, affirmed Monday that he will seek the GOP nomination in the 6th Congressional District.

Costello told Sunshine State News he waited until April 15 to "be sure" that Rep. John Mica, R-Orlando, would not be returning to CD 6. Mica has opted to run against freshman Rep. Sandy Adams in the neighboring 7th Congressional District.

Pam Bondi Wants More Floridians Included in BP Settlement

Attorney General Pam Bondi wants a federal judge to delay the recently announced BP settlement because she says it doesn't give full compensation to Floridians.

Bondi has filed a statement of interest asking the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana, to review the pending $9.6 million settlement in the April 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
