State Rep. Fred Costello Makes It Official: He's Running in CD 6

State Rep. Fred Costello, R-Ormond Beach, affirmed Monday that he will seek the GOP nomination in the 6th Congressional District.

Costello told Sunshine State News he waited until April 15 to "be sure" that Rep. John Mica, R-Orlando, would not be returning to CD 6. Mica has opted to run against freshman Rep. Sandy Adams in the neighboring 7th Congressional District.

"Congress isn't an entry-level position," Costello said in a statement. "While serving as mayor, I led Ormond Beach to the second lowest tax rate out of 16 cities in Volusia County. As a state representative, I voted to balance Florida's budget by cutting $6 billion over the last two sessions."

Other announced Republicans in the race for the open seat are attorney Ron DeSantis, businessman Craig Miller and St. Johns School Board member Bev Slough.
