Joe Scarborough on Marco Rubio: 'He's Not Ready to be Vice President'

If Mitt Romney, who looks almost certain to emerge as the Republican presidential nominee, chooses Marco Rubio as his running mate, the junior senator from Florida would be the first politician in the Sunshine States history to be on a major partys ticket -- but a prominent former congressman from Florida said on Thursday that Rubio is not ready for the position.

Rick Scott Reviewing Bill to Prohibit Contracts with Businesses Trading in Cuba

Gov. Rick Scott said he is still reviewing a bill that many anti-Castro Miamians support but that the Florida Chamber of Commerce says could harm economic growth in Florida.

Scott, speaking Thursday on South Florida Spanish-language station 1020 AM, said he will be briefed on the impact of House Bill 959 before the May 5 deadline to sign, veto or allow the bill to become law without his signature.

Citizens Board Backs Off Premium Hikes

Citizens Property Insurance Corp. will explore charging new customers potentially much higher rates but backed away from final approval Thursday following pushback from consumers, lawmakers and state officials.

Following debate and public testimony, Citizens' board of governors, meeting in Tampa, directed staff to work up a package of proposed rates for 2013 that includes allowing the state-backed insurer to charge new customers premiums that more closely meet actuarially sound rates.

Rick Scott: I Will Appeal Drug Test Ruling

The governor says he will appeal a federal ruling that declared it is unconstitutional to randomly test people on the state payroll for drug use.

Gov. Rick Scott, whose executive order was under question, noted the ruling does not include new hires and he will contest the decision by U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro in Miami.

Ungaro, in a 37-page order signed Wednesday, declared Scotts executive order from March 2011 calling for the random drug testing of state workers a violation of employees' Fourth Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution.

Environmentalists Drop Challenge to Deepwater Dredging of Port of Miami

Environmentalists who had blocked the dredging of the Port of Miami channel down to 52 feet making it one of the deepest ports on the East Coast -- have withdrawn their opposition to the two-year project.

An agreement, which still needs approval from the Miami-Dade County Commission, means the Port of Miami may move forward with the $220 million state and county project -- the state is putting up $122 million -- aimed at making the port more attractive to the growing marine trade, as well as the massive Panamax ships using the expanded Panama Canal.

Random drug testing of state employees is unconstitutional, U.S. District Judge Ursula Ungaro has ruled.

Florida’s Consumer Confidence Hinges on Jobs, Election

Continued employment gains should help consumer confidence in Florida, but future optimism may be hindered by the 2012 elections, according to a University of Florida report.

The monthly consumer confidence numbers from UFs survey research center at the Bureau of Economic and Business Research indicated that Floridians are a little more pessimistic about the future than they were in March.

Rep. Scott Plakon Seeks State Probe of Supreme Court 'Electioneering'

Not buying the "financial disclosure" rationale presented by the legal counsel for three state Supreme Court justices, a Republican lawmaker wants the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate whether public employees and resources were used to assist them in electioneering.
