Pam Bondi Backs John Legg in GOP State Senate Primary

House Speaker Pro Tempore John Legg, R-Port Richey, continues to gain the support of the Republican leadership for his bid for a seat in the Florida Senate. On Thursday, state Attorney General Pam Bondi announced that she was backing Legg over former Rep. Rob Wallace and security consultant John Korscak in the Republican primary on Aug. 14.

Mike Huckabee Less Active in Florida in 2012, but Rolling Nationally

Though he got involved this week in a rare primary battle between two incumbent congressmen, former Gov. Mike Huckabee of Arkansas is playing less of a role in the 2012 election cycle than he did in 2012 in Florida -- where he moved after his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. But Huckabee shows no signs of playing less of a role on the national stage.

Late Wednesday, he announced that he was backing U.S. Rep. John Mica who is facing U.S. Rep. Sandy Adams in the Aug. 14 Republican primary.

NFIB Backs Only Republicans for Florida Senate Seats

On Thursday, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) used its political action committee to back Republican candidates who are running for seats in the Florida Senate. The group did not endorse any Democrats.

HD 20: Two Alachua County Dems Battle in Primary for Open House Seat

Two Democrats are battling in the August primary for an open seat in the Florida House of Representatives representing parts of Alachua and Marion counties and the winner should be headed to Tallahassee since whoever emerges will face a write-in candidate.

Much of the new district is currently represented by Rep. Chuck Chestnut, D-Gainesville, who is stepping down after three terms in the Florida House to run for Alachua County Commission.

Jeff Atwater: More Floridians Being Reunited with Unclaimed Property

More than $211 million in initially unclaimed cash and property was returned to Floridians during fiscal year 2011-2012 -- nearly 12 percent more than the previous fiscal year, Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater announced.

Last year, the Bureau of Unclaimed Property approved nearly 300,000 claims to reunite Floridians with their unclaimed property.

Air Products to Create 250 Jobs at New Port Manatee Plant


The governors office announced that Air Products, an Allentown, Pa., company, is expanding to Manatee County, building a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will employ 250.

The international gases and chemicals supply company is expanding its liquefied natural gas heat exchanger manufacturing footprint to be close to Port Manatee, which will handle the global shipping for the business.

Florida Strongly Represented on Team USA and Among World Athletes at Olympics

Florida will be well-represented when athletes from around the world make their way into Olympic Park in London for the opening of the 2012 Summer Games.

At least 92 athletes with Florida ties, of whom 51 will be suited up in the red, white and blue -- and we know we didn't catch everybody -- are in Britain for the Games. The Games began Wednesday with opening matches in womens soccer, in which University of Florida alumni Abby Wambach and Heather Mitts pace the U.S. team.
