May 27, 2015 - 1:00am

Over the past year, I've been reading books inspired by the centenary of World War I, a war with horrific casualties painful to contemplate. May 28, 2015 - 9:00pm

Ever wondered what school would be like without letter grades? In Martin County, that’s the reality for elementary-aged students -- instead of getting letter grades like “A’s,” “B’s” or “C’s,” students get “M’s,” “P’s,” and “N’s.” If the concept sounds unfamiliar, it’s because it’s not widely used in Florida. The new grading system has left Martin County’s school system all shook up -- and parents aren’t too happy about it.

Florida House Won't Cave on Medicaid Expansion

May 28, 2015 - 2:45pm

If you're waiting for the Florida House to hoist the white flag, pull up a comfortable chair. You'll be awhile.

The new FHIX Senate Plan is still unacceptable to the bulk of the House majority. It's still Medicaid expansion, it still doesn't address cost drivers and Speaker Steve Crisafulli still doesn't see much in it to like.

There might be 10 House Republicans feeling the heat from their purple districts -- maybe -- making a show of taking a closer look at the Senate revision. But in the end, don't expect many of these guys to vote against House resistance.
