June 18, 2015 - 6:45am

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton hasn't lost her iron grip on the Democratic primary in Florida, flying high above party rivals in the Sunshine State, a new poll shows.

Clinton leads a Qunnipiac poll of Florida Democrats released Thursday morning with 64 percent. Vice President Joe Biden, who has left the door open to another presidential bid, takes distant second with 9 percent. U.S. Sen. Florida Republicans are closely divided between two favorite sons running for the GOP’s presidential nomination, a new poll finds.

The Nature Conservancy Gets It

June 18, 2015 - 10:00am

Most Florida environmental groups  this special session made a lot of noise -- you heard them -- and spent a lot of money, but in the end, came away empty-handed and bitterly unhappy.

Not The Nature Conservancy.

The Conservancy (TNC), largest private conservation landowner in the world, including more than 60,000 acres in preserves from the Keys to the Florida Panhandle, walked its own path during both legislative sessions, never putting the U.S. Sugar Corp. option on its wish list.

I Beg to Differ

Here's a newly minted decision you probably didn't expect: We're getting a woman's face on the $10 bill.

What woman, the Treasury Department isn't sure yet. And you'll have to live at least another five years to see it -- the bill won't be unveiled until 2020, the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote.

But, hey, Americans can take the summer to help choose. The department is asking Americans to submit their ideas on a website, thenew10.treasury.gov, or on Twitter with the hashtag #TheNew10.

McDonald's, the 'Progressive Burger Company'

June 18, 2015 - 7:00am

In January, McDonald's, leaning against the winds of fashion, said kale would never replace lettuce on its burgers. In May, however, it said it will test kale in a breakfast meal (breakfast is about 25 percent of McDonald's sales). Kale might or might not cause construction workers to turn at 6 a.m. into McDonald's drive-through lines, where approximately two-thirds of McDonald's customers place their orders.

South Florida Congressional Republicans Call for TPS for Guatemalans

Three South Florida Republicans in Congress--U.S. Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Carlos Curbelo and Mario Diaz-Balart--want Guatemala nationals to have Temporary Protected Status (TPS) in the U.S. due to natural disasters in that Latin American nation, allowing them to temporarily live and work in the U.S.
