Majority of Florida Delegation Wants Congressional Redistricting Hearings

A majority of the Florida congressional delegation wrote the leaders of the Florida Legislature on Thursday, asking them to hold statewide hearings on congressional redistricting as mandated by a state Supreme Court decision. 

Carla Spalding Enters Crowded GOP Primary to Replace Patrick Murphy

This week, a new Republican candidate emerged in the race to replace U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., in 2016 even as a potential candidate said she wasn’t going to enter the already crowded primary. Murphy is running for the U.S. Senate instead of a third term next year. 

Navy veteran and nurse Carla Spalding filed her paperwork this week in Tallahassee to launch her bid. 

Marco Rubio Urges John Kerry to Include Jailed Americans as Part of Iran Deal

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla. who sits on both the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, wrote to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Friday, urging that any deal with Iran include the release of American citizens held by the Iranian regime.

Florida's Unemployment Rate Reaches Seven-Year Low

Gov. Rick Scott announced on Friday that the state unemployment rate dropped to 5.5 percent in June, the lowest since March 2008, as 12,200 new jobs were added to the private sector. The unemployment rate had stood at 5.7 percent in May.

Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., in Congress, offered his take on Friday on the shooting spree in Chattanooga in which a Muslim man shot up a recruiting center before heading toward a Navy and Marines reserve center where he killed four Marines.

Pam Bondi Backs Carlos Lopez-Cantera to Replace Marco Rubio in 2016

Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera entered the race to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., on Wednesday and, on Thursday, unveiled a major endorsement: Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi. Rubio is running for the Republican presidential nomination and is not expected to run for a second Senate term in 2016.
