Two Florida Republican activists are showcased in the latest round of TV ads as the Republican National Committee (RNC) looks to build up its team for 2016. 

The RNC is set to run ads highlighting the Republican Leadership Initiative (RLI) which will run on Fox Business during next week’s debate between the Republican presidential candidates. The ads include looks at two women from Florida: Vallerie, a community leader from Sarasota, and Katherine, the mother of an autistic child based in Tampa. 

The Florida Chamber of Commerce, which supports keeping the gaming compact with the Seminoles but opposes the expansion of gaming including destination casinos, released a poll on Thursday showing Floridians back the compact. 

Already under fire from the left, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., is now drawing heat from one of the largest liberal groups in the nation which wants her out as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. 

The U.S. House passed a measure repealing much of President Barack Obama’s federal health-care law and defunding Planned Parenthood on Wednesday. Obama is expected to veto the bill. 

Rick Scott’s starting the new year by offering some reminders that, even while he can’t run for a third term, he’s no lame duck in Tallahassee. 

While the economy continued to do well with tourism on the rise and the unemployment rate dropping, Scott had a few hiccups last year. Despite sizeable Republican majorities in both chambers of the Legislature, the House and the Senate were often on far different pages over the budget, redistricting, Medicaid expansion and other issues. 

Political aide and Navy veteran Brandon Patty launched a bid to replace U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., who is currently running for the U.S. Senate. 

U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, the chairman of the U.S. House Oversight Committee, endorsed U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s, R-Fla., bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Wednesday. 

On Wednesday, Pastor Jack Martin launched a bid for the Republican nomination to replace U.S. Rep. Rich Nugent, R-Fla., who is retiring from Congress after three terms. 

Down in the polls and now running out of time, Jeb Bush opened the door this week to having his brother George W. Bush hit the campaign trail with him as he tries to salvage his bid for the Republican presidential nomination. 

U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-SC, continues to showcase his support for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s, R-Fla., presidential bid, this time in a  TV ad released Tuesday in his home state of South Carolina.
