Rick Scott to Tampa: I Won't Ban Guns Outside GOP Convention

Gov. Rick Scott shot down a request by Tampa City Council members to alter the states gun law for the city downtown when the Republican National Convention comes to town this August.

While the city has the ability on its own to temporarily ban water guns, sticks and poles, Scott stated that firearm possession is covered by Article I, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution and the Second Amendment.

Rick Scott Signs Embargo on Business Contracts with Cuba and Syria

Gov. Rick Scott signed legislation Tuesday designed to punish companies that do business with Cuba or Syria.Both nations are on the U.S. State Department list of state sponsors of terrorism.

For a symbolic flourish, Scott signed the bill, House Bill 959, in the Freedom Tower in Miami, a building that once served as a processing center by the federal government for refugees fleeing Fidel Castros communist regime.

Pam Bondi Asking for Help to Spend $300 Million

Attorney General Pam Bondi needs help spending $300 million.

The attorney general has set up a webpage for the public to make suggestions on how to distribute Floridas share of the national mortgage servicing settlement.

You have to give your name, a phone number and email address, along with your comments that take up 1,000 characters or less. The character count includes spaces and punctuation.

The attorney general's office did not immediately respond to a request about what kind of suggestions are being accepted.

Florida Bar Out to Educate Voters on Judicial Merit Retention

The Florida Bar kicked off a $300,000 campaign in Tallahassee Monday to educate voters about the merit retention system.

The idea is to help Floridians this November make an informed choice as to whether three Florida Supreme Court justices and 15 appellate judges should keep their jobs.

A new survey shows 90 percent of the citizens of this state dont understand merit retention and have no idea how it works.

Florida voters amended the Constitution in 1976 to try to keep politics out of the judicial system.

After Gov. Rick Scott replacedRod Jones on the Board of Chiropractic Medicine this week, his father Sen. Dennis Jones, R-Seminole, who has clashed with Gov. Rick Scott over prison privatization, made it patently clear that he would be willing to campaign for another Republican in 2014.

Jones said he expects a primary challenger to arise because of Scotts low approval ratings.

If his numbers dont go any higher, I cant image hed run anyway, Jones speculated.
