Gov. Rick Scott has selected Richard S. Browdy of Jacksonville to chair the Florida Building Commission.
The appointment, announcedFriday,requires Florida Senate confirmation.
Browdy, 65, is president of Browdy and Browdy Inc. He would succeed Raul L. Rodriguez.
The term ends Oct. 14, 2015.

In two events Monday, GOP presidential candidate Michele Bachmann will reach out to Arizona legislators and Donald Trump.
The Minnesota congresswoman will participate in a Border Security Roundtable at the Senate Chambers in Phoenix on Monday morning.
At 8 p.m. ET, Bachmann will join real estate tycoon Donald Trump in a nationwide "tele-town hall" to discuss critical economic issues facing American families and businesses. It marks the first appearance Trump has made on a tele-town hall with a 2012 presidential candidate.

Ted Herring, convicted of killing a Daytona Beach convenience store clerk in 1981, is heading back to death row.
The Florida Supreme Court announced Thursday it had reversed a lower court decision that had vacated Herring's capital punishment sentence on the grounds the 50-year-old met the definition of mental retardation.
Herring, who had been found guilty of armed robbery and first-degree murder, challenged his conviction in 2003 after the U.S. Supreme Court issued a decision calling the execution of a person with mental retardation "cruel and unusual."

The Florida Supreme Court rejected an appeal this week by convicted murderer Willie Seth Crain Jr.
Crain, sentenced to death for the 1998 kidnapping and murder of 7-year-old Amanda Brown, argued that his attorneys were ineffective because they stipulated that DNA matching Amandas DNA was derived from blood -- as opposed to some other source -- and failed to call an expert to challenge the states scratch-marks expert.
Crain has denied he killed the Hillsborough County girl whose body has never been found.

Republican senatorial candidate Craig Miller joined the growing chorus criticizing Sen. Bill Nelson's use of office staff to jab fellow Sen. Marco Rubio.
Commenting on Sunshine State News' story about Nelson spokesman Dan McLaughlin alerting a Florida newspaper to an opinion poll on Rubio, Miller campaign spokesman Jon Miller said:
"It's not surprising that Senator Nelson and his spokesman clearly meant to violate the Hatch Act. I'm just wondering if Dan McLaughlin will be including a question related to ethics in his next pollof Senator Nelson."

"Audubon of Floridas Theodore Roosevelt Award goes to lawmakers whose conservation efforts have made a notable impact on Floridas ecosystems and wildlife. Roosevelt was one of the founding members of the Florida Audubon Society and established the first National Wildlife Refuge at Pelican Island.

As Spanish-language rival Univisions plans for a Republican presidential debate for late January remain in turmoil, Telemundo is going to grab for the political spotlight.
The Miami-based Telemundo announced plans Thursday for a GOP presidential debate in early December from Las Vegas.
The location is key as Nevada, like Florida, is an early primary state with a growing Hispanic population.
