After 10 Glorious Years, Sunshine State News and I Are Passing the Baton

Before the Supreme Court of the United States gutted much of the Arizona immigration law on Monday, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., weighed in on the issue on an appearance on Fox and Friends on Fox News.

Attorney and veteran Ron DeSantis continues to reel in impressive endorsements as he runs for the Republican nomination for a new congressional district stretching from the suburbs of Jacksonville to Volusia County. On Monday, DeSantis announced that he had garnered the support of U.S. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Ut, a tea party favorite who defeated longtime incumbent Robert Bennett in the 2010 Republican primary.

The tea party bloc continues to line up behind large-animal doctor Ted Yoho in the crowded GOP primary for the new District 3 congressional seat. Slightly more than three-of-four members of the Gainesville Tea Party opted for Yoho in a straw ballot held Saturday. U.S. Rep. Cliff Stearns, R-Ocala, garnered 10 percent of the vote, state Sen. Steve Oelrich, R-Gainesville, picked up 7 percent, and Clay County Clerk of the Court James Jett received 4 percent. The remaining two percent were divided between Phillip Dodd, an independent candidate, and undecided.

As expected, Tropical Storm Debby remains stationary over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico, dumping rain on those along the Floridas Panhandle. And little change is expected in the next couple of days, according to the National Weather Service. Tracking models vary, with models heading west, north, east and northeast, with the latter direction deemed mostly likely due influencing from a mid-tropospheric trough over the northeast.
