Florida Wants Minimum Wage Increase--But Divided on How Much

A new poll shows strong support across Florida to raise the minimum wage in the Sunshine State. 

Quinnipiac University Polling Logo released a poll on Thursday showing three-quarters of Florida voters--76 percent--support raising the minimum wage while only 20 percent support keeping it at $8.46 an hour. Floridians of all political backgrounds, ages, genders, race and education levels support increasing the minimum wage. 

Florida Blue to Provide Claims Information

In a major turnaround, one of Florida’s largest health insurers is poised to provide 60 million insurance claims to a statewide database designed to help people shop for health care.

Jacksonville-based Florida Blue agreed to submit three years of claims data that will show what the company paid hospitals and health care providers, said company spokeswoman Toni Woods.

The Fourth District Court of Appeals concurred today in a 12-page, unanimous opinion that Hurchalla's free speech privileges “were negated by malice on the part of Hurchalla.”

Ted Yoho Wants to Require Tax Preparers to Take a Proficiency Test

This week, U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., paired up with U.S. Rep. Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif., on a bill empowering the IRS to set minimum standards for paid tax preparers. 

Yoho and Panetta brought out the “Taxpayer Protection and Preparer Proficiency Act" to that purpose. Over in the U.S. Senate, Democrats, led by U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and U.S. Sen. Ben Cardin, D-Md., have a companion measure.
