An effort to reduce fraud in personal injury protection (PIP) auto insurance would revamp policies to cover emergency care and services required within three days of a crash.

Small-business owners lean toward favoring the gambling bill, but say there are bigger issues to tackle in the upcoming legislative session, said Bill Herrle, executive director of the National Federation of Independent Business/Florida. First, legislators when they begin the 60-day regular session next week need to focus on workers compensation, unemployment compensation, tort reform and tangible personal property tax relief, Herrle said.

Bay Buchanan, former treasurer of the United States, guided her brother Pat to two big showings in the New Hampshire primary when she was the campaign manager for his presidential bids. Pat Buchanan upset Bob Dole to win the Granite State in 1996 and came very close to beating then-President George H.W. Bush in 1992. On Friday, Bay Buchanan announced that she was backing former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts for the Republican presidential nomination.

Former Gov. Mitt Romney is leading in New Hampshire according to a Suffolk University/7News poll released on Friday while former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum continues to move up in the Granite State. New Hampshire will hold its primary on Tuesday. Romney takes 40 percent in the poll with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas in second with 17 percent. Santorum takes third with 11 percent in the poll, ahead of former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 9 percent and former Jon Huntsman of Utah with 8 percent. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas lags far behind with 1 percent.

With the primary looming on Tuesday, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts is routing the Republican field in New Hampshire according to a poll released on Friday from Rasmussen Reports. Romney leads the field with 42 percent followed by U.S. Rep. Ron Paul with 18 percent, former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania with 13 percent and former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah with 12 percent. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich takes 8 percent and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas pulls 1 percent.

Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner has called for a series of 10 debates with the other Republican candidates looking to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. Hasner called for each debate to be 90 minutes in length in a letter sent out to the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) and two of his main rivals -- former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux and U.S. Rep. Connie Mack.

Gov. Rick Scott says the Florida primary should decide the GOP primary, with the winner going to the candidate with the best plan to grow employment. Thats how I won my race and thats what Ive been doing for the [last] 12 months, Scott said during an interview with WOKV 690-AM in Jacksonville on Friday morning. Thats whats going to be most important in this presidential race. Scott hasnt endorsed a candidate in the primary.

A Rasmussen Reports poll of likely South Carolina Republican primary voters released on Friday finds that former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts leads in the Palmetto State but hes hearing the footsteps of former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania. South Carolina will hold its primary on Jan. 21.

Unemployment dropped to 8.5 percent nationally in December, down 0.1 of a percentage point from November, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The new numbers record 13.1 million Americas reported as unemployed.

After finishing in fifth place in the Iowa caucus on Tuesday night, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas surprised most pundits on Wednesday when he announced that he was staying in the race. Perry is planning to mostly ignore New Hampshire -- which holds it primary this coming Tuesday -- to focus on South Carolina which hosts its primary on Jan. 21. In an email sent out to supporters late on Thursday, Perry clearly highlighted his commitment to doing well in the Palmetto State.

AAA is backing bills to ban texting while driving, require booster seats for children through their fifth year and for legislators not to divert money from transportation projects to patch holes in the state budget for the upcoming legislative session.

Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll will address the Governors Commission on Jobs for Floridians with Disabilities Friday morning. The inaugural meeting of the commission -- created by Gov. Scott to advance job and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in order to help those individuals achieve greater independence -- is set for 10 a.m. in Tallahassee. Carroll is expected to address the commission at 10:10 a.m.

Palm Beach County isnt waiting for legislators to act and taking action to slow the proliferation of Internet cafes into their own hands. County commissions have voted to stop issuing business tax receipts for the arcades in unincorporated areas while a one-year moratorium is put in place, the Palm Beach Post reported.
