Adam Hasner Calls for More Senate Debates
Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner has called for a series of 10 debates with the other Republican candidates looking to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012. Hasner called for each debate to be 90 minutes in length in a letter sent out to the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) and two of his main rivals -- former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux and U.S. Rep. Connie Mack. Hasner added in the letter that he hoped the RPOF would reach out to two other candidates in the race -- retired Army officer and businessman Mike McCalister and restaurant executive Craig Miller.
"While we have much in common, there are also real differences between us on important issues like government spending, immigration reform, the sanctity of life, and the best way to reform the failed political system in Washington," Hasner said in a statement on Friday. "A series of debates around Florida would give us the best opportunity to constructively highlight these differences and give Republican primary voters around the state the best opportunity to hear from us directly, without the filter of the mainstream media."
