Whoever wins will have a hard time landing the speaker role. Florida has a stable economic outlook, but the pending Florida Supreme Court decision on the 2011 law that required employees to pay 3 percent of their salary toward their pension could change that, Sen. Joe Negron, chairman of the powerful Appropriations Committee, said Wednesday. The Stuart Republican said one goal of the budget for 2013 will be to increase the states reserves from $1 billion to $1.5 billion to maintain the states credit rating and as a brace in case the states top court rules in favor of the unions that opposed the pension law.

The eyes of Senate President Don Gaetz, R-Niceville, Florida voters and the nation, Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, said Tuesday are on the Senate's Election Committee. The Florida Senate's Select Committee on Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) launched its first meeting Monday, withChairman Joe Negron, R-Palm City, assuring his fellow legislators and citizen attendees that no votes would be taken that day. "I've always believed it's good to have a trial first, before a verdict," Negron announced. The Committee is considering what the Florida Legislature's official response will be to the Obamacare Act, which comes into full effect in 2014.
