Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi Responds to 'Synthetic Marijuana' Report
Attorney General Pam Bondi issued the statement below inresponse to the Drug Abuse Warning Networks Drug-Related EmergencyDepartment Visits Involving Synthetic Cannabinoids report. Cathinones, commonly known as bath salts, and cannabinoids, commonly known as K2 orSpice, are synthetic drugs that reportedly cause seizures, hallucinations, paranoid behavior, nonresponsiveness, and more.
According to the Drug Abuse Warning Network report, synthetic cannabinoidswere linked to more than 11,000 emergency department visits in 2010. It isextremely alarming that 75 percent of those visits were bypatients ages 12 to 29.
We must do everything within our power to keep these dangerous drugs outof the hands of Floridas children. I remain dedicated to partnering withthe law enforcement community, health officials, and the FloridaLegislature tooutlaw these drugs and remove them from Floridas storeshelves.
