Marco Rubio Wants John Kerry to Meet With Democracy Activists in Cuba

With U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry headed to Cuba later this week as the Obama administration continues to push normalization with that nation, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., the chairman of the U.S. Senate Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, is urging him to meet with activists fighting for democracy and against the Castro regime.

With news that the U.S.  Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has denied more than 35,000 combat veterans their benefits due to a clerical error, U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., now running for the U.S. Senate in 2016, doubled down on his calls for reform.

A Debatable 'Debate'

The so-called "debates," among too many Republicans to have a debate, are yet another painful sign of how much words and ideas have degenerated in our times.

No one expects these televised sound bites and "gotcha" questions to be anything like the historic Lincoln-Douglas debates on the momentous national issue of slavery.

English Soccer Club Scores Visit Florida Scholarship

When Fulham Football Club's Matt Smith headed home a goal against Cardiff on Saturday, cameras were immediately focused on the center forward as he wheeled away from the goal to celebrate.

More than 4,000 miles away, officials from Visit Florida, the state's tourism-marketing arm, were smiling.

Stamped in blue across Smith's predominately white away soccer jersey --- in photos picked up by the BBC, the Guardian and the Daily Mail --- was the name Visit Florida.
