Gelber Cheers Crist for Insurance Veto

Gov. Charlie Crist's veto of a property insurance measure is earning him praise ... from Democrats. Sen. Dan Gelber, D-North Miami Beach, the former leader of the Democrats in the House and now running in a tight contest for attorney general, cheered the former Republican governor for killing the measure.

Former RPOF Chairman Jim Greer Arrested

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is going to hold a news conference at 11:30 a.m.in Orlando about the arrest of former Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer. The charges have not been announced but Greer was under investigation due to lavish spending and financial irregularities at the RPOF during his tenure in charge. Greer is currently being held at the John. E. Polk Correctional Facility in Seminole County and is being held without bail.

Bud Chiles Looks Set to Take On the Family Business

Bud Chiles, the son of Florida political legend and longtime U.S. Sen. and Gov. Lawton Chiles, is set to make announcement in Tallahassee on Thursday about his political future -- with rumors swirling that he intends to run for governor in the Democratic primary or, possibly, with no party affiliation.

If he does announce, Chiles will join an inordinately long line of politically strong families in recent years who have charmed Sunshine State voters into keeping the dynasty going:

Kosmas Praises, Posey Pillories $15 Million Space Coast Relief Package

Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, D-New Smyrna Beach, today hailed a $15 million grant to assist workers on the Space Coast.

The grant was awarded to the Brevard Workforce Development Board to aid thousands of workers who will be laid off by the impending retirement of NASAs space shuttle program.

Funds will provide career guidance assistance as well as training and continuing education. The grant was made available through the Department of Labors National Emergency Grants program.

But Rep. Bill Posey, R-Rockledge, wasn't nearly so impressed.

Internal Beaven Poll Shows Mica Vulnerable and Lots of Voter Anxiety

Democrat Heather Beaven, a Navy veteran who is taking on U.S. Rep. John Mica, is touting the results of a poll her campaign commissioned from SEA.

While the polls margin of error is high at 4.9 percent and shows that Micas approval of 56 percent remains fairly strong in this anti-incumbent year, the poll also reveals Beaven has an opportunity. Voters like her biography more than Micas and only 32 percent favor his re-election while 47 percent think its time for someone else.

Crist Vetoes Property Insurance Legislation

Calling the measure unfriendly to consumers, Gov. Charlie Crist on Tuesday vetoed legislation backed by the insurance industry that, among other things, things would have allowed property insurance companies to more easily raise rates by up to 10 percent a year without going through the lengthy regulatory process.
