Gelber Cheers Crist for Insurance Veto
Gov. Charlie Crist's veto of a property insurance measure is earning him praise ... from Democrats. Sen. Dan Gelber, D-North Miami Beach, the former leader of the Democrats in the House and now running in a tight contest for attorney general, cheered the former Republican governor for killing the measure.
Gov. Crist did the right thing for consumers by vetoing SB 2044," said Gelber. "For the second year in a row, Gov. Crist vetoed legislation that tilted the rate-setting playing field away from consumers. SB 2044, like last years HB 1171, would have caused rate increases that were simply unbearable to many of our citizens in trying economic times. I think it is unfortunate that the Florida Legislature seems almost incapable of passing a pro-consumer insurance bill."
Strong words from Gelber, who made a brief stab at the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination when it appeared Crist was the favorite for the Republican nomination.
