A Tallahassee judge Wednesday gave the OK to Tampa entrepreneur Joe Redner to grow his own pot to treat cancer, prompting state health officials to immediately appeal a decision that could open the door to more legal skirmishes over Florida’s medical-marijuana regulations.

Leon County Circuit Judge Karen Gievers ruled that the 77-year-old Redner --- who made his fortune as a strip-club owner --- can grow his own marijuana because state rules prohibit Florida medical-marijuana operators from selling whole plants or flowers.

Looking to make a political comeback and reclaim a seat in the Florida House, conservative Mike Hill came out swinging against gun control measures passed by the GOP controlled Legislature in the aftermath of the Parkland school shooting.

Running in the Republican primary to replace outgoing state Rep. Clay Ingram to represent parts of Escambia County, Hill stressed his opposition to legislation passed in Tallahassee raising the minimum age to purchase guns from 18 to 21, sets up a three-day waiting period for buying rifles and bans bump stocks.

And four of the candidates seeking to replace term-limited Attorney General Pam Bondi recorded six-figure fundraising months in March, topped by Democrat Sean Shaw, a state House member from Tampa who raised more than $200,000.

U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., is not the only member of the House leadership to announce his retirement from Congress on Wednesday as a Republican congressman from Florida also said he was not seeking another term. 

U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., part of the House leadership as senior deputy majority whip, said on Wednesday that he will not seek a fifth term.
