Ron Paul Ad Attacking Rick Perry Being Run During Debate

With the Republican presidential candidates squaring off in a debate sponsored by NBC News and Politico at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., on Wednesday night, one of the candidates will be hitting the airwaves -- and one of his fellow candidates -- with a new commercial.

Besides taking part in the debate, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul will run a commercial during the telecast that takes aim at fellow Texas Republican Gov. Rick Perry.

ACLU Files Class-Action Suit to Stop Welfare Drug Tests; Gov. Scott Confident of Prevailing

As threatened, the ACLU has sued the state of Florida in a bid to end drug testing of welfare recipients.

The screening program, which went into effect July 1, was branded by the ACLU as a violation of Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure.

Filing the case as a class action in U.S. District Court in Orlando, the ACLU listed Luis Lebron as the plaintiff. Lebron is described as an Orlando-area Navy veteran who applied for benefits from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

Gary Johnson Doubles Down on New Hampshire

Despite buzz that he would seek the Libertarian Partys presidential nomination, former Gov. Gary Johnson of New Mexico doubled down on his commitment this week to running for the Republican presidential nomination with a focus on New Hampshire, home of the first primary.

As I travel there, I see our message resonating more than anywhere else, Johnson wrote in an e-mail sent to supporters on Tuesday. Thats great news, because its no secret that New Hampshire is absolutely key to the nominating process. Just ask Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton.

New RNC Ad Hammers Obama Before Jobs Speech

With President Barack Obama giving a speech on jobs on Thursday, the Republican National Committee (RNC) released a web video on Wednesday reminding voters of the presidents record on employment and the economy.

James DeCocq Defeats Thad Altman in Central Florida Straw Poll

Businessman James DeCocq celebrated a victory over Florida state Sen. Thad Altman, R-Melbourne, at the Conservative Roar event held over the Labor Day weekend in Sanford.

DeCocq took 107 votes while Altman, who represents parts of Brevard, Orange and Seminole counties, lagged behind with 34.

John Bolton Slams Door on Presidential Campaign

Former Ambassador John Bolton, best known for his tenure as President George W. Bushsambassador to the United Nations, announced on Tuesday that he would not seek the Republican presidential nomination. While Bolton had said he was considering the possibility of running, he had done next to nothing in terms of setting up a campaign.

Election Panel Approves Legislative Package

Candidates would have to pay unpaid elections fines before their names could go on the ballot under a proposal approved Tuesday by the Florida Elections Commission as it tries to collect $1.4 million in unpaid penalties from political candidates.

Meeting by conference call, the commission also called for boosting penalties for judicial candidates who breech campaign laws. Both proposals were submitted last year but lawmakers chose not to bring them up.
