Rick Scott Wagers Key Lime Pies on FSU-OU and UF-Tenn. Games

Gov. Rick Scott has two key lime pieson the linefor this weekend's college football games featuring Florida State University and the University of Florida.

On Facebook, Scott stated he will send Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin a pie if OU wins Saturday in Tallahassee. Scott would receive a Field's pecan pie if FSU prevails.

For the UF game, Scott would receive a hickory smoked Benton's bacon from Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

Florida's Unemployment Remains at 10.7%

For the 11th consecutive month, there has been an increase in the number of people who want to work finding a job.

However, Florida's unemployment rate held for the third month at 10.7 percent, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation.

Overall, the state workforce grew by .1 percent, 9,900 jobs from July to August.

AWI Director Cynthia R. Lorenzo called this an optimistic sign for a state that remains above the national unemployment mark of 9.1 percent.

Legislative Leaders Name Presidential Primary Committee

Moments after Gov. Rick Scott named three members to the Presidential Preference Primary Committee that will meet next week to determine when the Sunshine State will hold its primaries in early 2012, the two leaders of the Florida Legislature named their choices.

Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, named two Republican senators -- John Thrasher of Jacksonville and Rene Garcia of Hialeah -- and one Democrat -- Sen. Gary Siplin of Orlando -- to the committee. Thrasher had served as chairman of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF).

Rick Scott Names Bob Martinez to Presidential Primary Committee

On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott unveiled his three choices for the state Presidential Preference Primary Date Selection Committee, and all of them were prominent Sunshine State political leaders.

Topping the list was former Gov. Bob Martinez, the second Republican to lead Florida during the 20th century. Martinez, who was also mayor of Tampa, was one of the key leaders in the effort to bring the 2012 Republican convention to the Tampa Bay region.

Can Jon Huntsman get some respect from Republicans? In a word: No.

Rush Limbaugh says he should run as a Democrat. Tea partiers doubt his conservative credentials. Many just can't get over the fact that he served as the Obama administration's ambassador to China.

Huntsman didn't endear himself to Florida Republicans when he abruptly reassigned staffers from his Orlando headquarters to New Hampshire and called this week's Presidency 5 summit "diminished."

Rick Scott Names Five to Judicial Nominating Commissions

Gov. Rick Scott made two appointments to the 9th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission and three to the 6th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

Kimberly J. Doud and Isaac J. Lidsky were added to the 9th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, while Justin R. Zinzow was reappointed to the 6th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission, with Judith DeBella-Thomas and Hugh C. Umsted getting first-time appointments to the same commission.

Redistricting Hearings Added to Start of Committee Week

The calendar for next weeks state legislative committee meetings continues to evolve.

A number of legislative and congressional redistricting meetings have been added to Mondays schedule.

Earlier this week, the Senate Select Committee on Protecting Floridas Children had been moved to Monday, Sept. 19. The meeting is expected to get all sorts of attention because of the efforts by legislators to create a "Caylee's law" in response to public anger over a jury rendering a not-guilty verdict against the dead girl's mother.

Odds On: Three Big College Football Games in Florida This Weekend

The Sunshine State will host three big football games Saturday, with No. 5 Florida State taking on No. 1 Oklahoma (8 p.m., ABC), Florida entertaining Tennessee (3:30 p.m., CBS) and Miami playing Ohio State at SunLife Stadium (7:30 p.m., ESPN).

The much-improved Seminoles are looking for revenge after the shellacking they took at Norman last year, and the Gators-Volunteers match-ups are always feisty.
