Consumer Complaints, Mostly About Telemarketing, Up 9 Percent

Telemarketers continue to be among the most irksome among Floridians as consumer complaints grew 9 percent in 2011 from the year before.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services reported that complaints about the Do Not Call list and telemarketing topped the annual top 10 consumer complaint list for the third consecutive year.

Stakes Growing as Gambling Bill Approaches First Vote

Jeff Cohen, Macks campaign manager, sent out a memo on Thursday to key supporters arguing that his candidate had great momentum in the race.

Dockery, Steinberg Propose Citizens' Veto of New State Laws

Sen. Paula Dockery, R-Lakeland, and Rep. Richard Steinberg, D-Miami Beach, have introduced legislation that would give Florida citizens the ability to veto some legislation shortly after it's approved.

Like many states, Florida should afford its citizens the opportunity to reject legislation that they deem detrimental to the state, Steinberg stated in a release. In a democracy, it is the citizens who should have the final word on whether to accept or reject a law.
