Scott Calls SNL Debate Spoofs 'Darn Funny,' Glad It's Not Him

Gov. Rick Scott says he hasnt watched "Saturday Night Live" since he was in law school, but hes found hes been drawn to the recent spoofs of the numerous Republican presidential debates.

"Poor Rick Perry, Scott said of the Texas governor, while speaking before about 70 members of the Florida Retail Federation at the Hotel Duval Thursday morning.

Scott said hes been recording the shows to watch the mock of the debates.

RNC Chairman: Rick Scott Does the Job While Obama 'Blows Sunshine'

On a day that Barack Obama visits Florida, national and state Republican leaders contrasted the president's performance with the work accomplished by Gov. Rick Scott.

"Rick Scott is doing a good job -- he's serious about debt and about jobs while the president is blowing sunshine around the world," Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said in a conference call Thursday morning.

Republican Party of Florida Chairman Lenny Curry said there is "a disconnect" between the governor's policies and his poll numbers.

Citizens Insurance Sees Big News in a Small Drop

Between Jan. 1, 2011, and this week, the state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is down 18 policies.

With more than 1.47 million polices now being handled by the insurer of last resort, 18 might not sound like a lot. However, for state officials who have been trying to direct a vast number of those policies toward private insurers, the reduction --no matter how slight --is viewed as good news.

Scott Lends Support to Closing Internet Cafes

Gov. Rick Scott favors closing the Internet cafes that have been springing up across the state.

The governor, who has yet to take a public stance on the destination gaming bills now before the Legislature, took a firm stand on the cafes or arcades that cater to seniors and fall short of being legally considered casinos by offering "sweepstake" prizes rather directly awarding cash.

Obama, Rick Scott Agree: Speed Up Tourist Visas for Brazilians

President Barack Obama and Gov. Rick Scott are poles apart politically, but their visits to Brazil last year put them on the same page when it comes to the value of Brazilian tourists here.

Obama is scheduled to be in Orlando on Thursday, reportedly to announce new initiatives to streamline the issuance of U.S. tourist visas for Brazilians. The program could encompass China as well, sources said.

Scott has called for changes in the visa program.
