Buddy Roemer Continues Fight for Campaign Finance Reform

Former Gov. Buddy Roemer of Louisiana shows no signs of heading to the political sidelines despite pulling out of the presidential race in May. Roemer first set his eyes on the Republican nomination but, after being left out of the debates, he went third party as he attempted to snag the nominations with Americans Elect and the Reform Party. With Americans Elect opting not to run a presidential candidate in 2012, Roemer ended his presidential bid.

Hearings Head to August on Gretna Barrel Racing

The future of barrel racing as a contest to be bet upon wasnt decided last week and hearings on the dispute will continue in August.

Four days of testimony before the Florida Division of Administrative Hearings ended June 29 without any determination if Gretna Racing LLC can continue to use barrel races as pari-mutuel heats to fulfill the requirement for its quarter horse racing and poker room licenses, according to Bloodhorse.com.

The Florida lottery, which last fall inked a deal to make the Sunshine State the first state to offer lottery tickets in Wal-Mart stores, announced this week that sales for the recently completed fiscal year were a one-year record of $4.45 billion.

'Internet Freedom' Movement Gears up a Notch With Petition Drive

The nonpartisan movement to keep the Internet free and unfettered gained striking momentum this week, as an Internet-rights petition called the Declaration of Internet Freedom gathered more than 20,000 signatures on Monday, its first day.

Those backing the drive include Mozilla, the American Civil Liberties Union, Reporters Without Borders and university professors from Harvards Berkman Center for Internet and Society and Stanford Law Schools Center for Internet and Society.

Those included queries based on a PolitiFact review the fact-checking website by the Tampa Bay Times which awarded Scott a "pants on fire" and two "falses" for remarks he's made since the ruling.
