Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty Extends 'Use and File' Policy

Hit with a heavy spike in requests for changes in forms, the Office of Insurance Regulation on Monday issued a rule allowing companies to go forward with changes without prior approval in certain cases.

The order, signed Monday by Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty, doesnt affect rate filings by insurance companies only filings involving forms the companies must file.

An otherwise dry hour-long series of presentations on the federal health-care law ended on a colorful note Monday, as some three dozen tea-party activists, represented by a handful of speakers, took to the podium for an additional hour to present their concerns to Florida senators.

The Florida Senate's Select Committee on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) launched its first meeting Monday, with Chairman Joe Negron, R-Palm City, assuring his fellow legislators and citizen attendees that no votes would be taken that day.

No Votes to Be Taken at Monday's Florida Senate Obamacare Committee Meeting

The Florida Senate's Select Committee on Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) launched its first meeting Monday, withChairman Joe Negron, R-Palm City, assuring his fellow legislators and citizen attendees that no votes would be taken that day.

"I've always believed it's good to have a trial first, before a verdict," Negron announced.

The Committee is considering what the Florida Legislature's official response will be to the Obamacare Act, which comes into full effect in 2014.

Roll Call: Democrats Are the Party of the Rich(est Members of Congress)

Roll Call reports that, contrary to popular myth, it is the Democrats who are the nations Party of the Rich, at least in terms of congressional wealth.

On Sunday, the newspaper published its annual 50 Richest Members of Congress. Thirty-one of the 50 are Republicans, but seven of the 10 richest are Democrats.
