Sarasota GOP Unaware of Allegations against Ex-Party Chair

The Republican Party of Sarasota County has released a statement disavowing any knowledge that former party chairman Bob Waechter allegedly made donations in the name of a rival to a Democratic congressional candidate.

We do not and will not abide any actions that contravene the law in an attempt to advance personal or partisan political goals, stated Sarasota Republican Party Chairman Joe Gruters in an email Saturday.

Adam Putnam: Doyle Conner a 'Mentor,' Defined the Ag Office

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam called the late Doyle Conner, who spent nearly 30 years as the states agriculture commissioner, a mentor who defined' the office.

Don't Expect George LeMieux to Go Away

Look for George LeMieux to remain a major player in national and Florida politics.The former U.S. senator isn't going anywhere.

At first glance, LeMieux confronts major challenges to remaining politically viable. In 2009, he was appointed to the U.S. Senate by his old ally, then-Gov. Charlie Crist. While LeMieux was Crists chief of staff, he supported Marco Rubio in the contest for the Senate seat in 2010, when Crist jumped ship on the Republicans to run for the seat with no party affiliation.

Alan Fine, Fleur Lobree Appointed to 11th Judicial Circuit

Gov. Rick Scott has appointed Alan S. Fine and Fleur Lobree to the 11th Judicial Circuit.

Fine, 55, of Coral Gables, has been in private practice since he began his legal career in 1984.

Alan has a reputation as an intelligent and skilled attorney and his impressive career has prepared him well for a seat on the 11th Judicial Circuit, Scott stated in a release. I am confident that he will serve with fairness and integrity.

Fine will replace Judge Ellen Leesfield who has retired.

Pam Bondi Encourages Adoption of 'Socks'

In her ongoing efforts to encourage Floridians to adopt shelter dogs, Attorney General Pam Bondi included Socks, a year-old Border Collie/Lab mix, during the annual Christmas tree presentation ceremony in the Florida Capitol on Dec. 11.
