Tom Lee: Democrats' Attack on the Enterprise Florida Tie a ‘Political Charade’

The continued assault on Enterprise Florida's new business-recruitment logo, which features an orange tie in the place of the Floridas "I," has become a wasteful embarrassment, said Sen. Tom Lee, R-Brandon.

As Democratic members of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Tourism and Economic Development assailed the $100,000 logo and the accompanying plans to include it as part of a $3 million campaign to attract new business to the Sunshine State, Lee beckoned that such expressed indignation is a non-issue.

GOP House Leadership Names Four New Deputy Whips

Florida House Majority Leader Steve Precourt, R-Orlando, and Majority Whip Dana Young, R-Tampa, have named four new deputy whips in advance of the start of the 60-day regular session.

The new House whips are: Reps. Travis Cummings, R-Orange Park; MaryLynn Magar, R-Tequesta; Dan Raulerson, R-Plant City; and David Santiago, R-Deltona.

It has been a privilege getting to know these new representatives over the last several months and I look forward to working more closely with them this year in their new role, Precourt stated in a release.

Florida Wins Second Medicaid Waiver

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has now approved both of Floridas requested Medicaid waivers which could bring the Sunshine State closer to accepting the expansion of the program as outlined in the Affordable Care Act.

The governors office announced an agreement in principle has been reached on the second waiver, which would grant more Medicaid flexibilities for Florida to coordinate care and help prevent hospital visits.

House Democrats to Oppose $10,000 Contribution Cap

The Florida House Democratic Caucus will propose a series of revisions to the Republican-backed sweeping election reform effort, House Bill, 569, that is to go before the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday.

The caucus announced in a release that members object to portions of the bill by Rep. Robert "Rob" Schenck, R-Spring Hill, that:

-- Increase maximum contributions to $10,000. The caucus prefers the cap to remain at $500.

Colombia Trade Mission Equals $40 Million in New Sales to Florida

The Enterprise Florida trade mission to Colombia in December will boost sales to the Sunshine State by more than $40 million, the governors office reported Wednesday.

Scott headed the five-day trade mission that included an entourage of nearly 200, from 116 Florida companies, to the states second largest trading partner.

As part of the mission, Enterprise Florida and U.S. Commercial Service in Bogotset up one-to-one matchmaker meetings between Florida 28 companies and Colombian companies.
