With free speech attacked under attack on college campuses across the nation, a congressman from the Sunshine State is hoping to protect it with a new proposal. 

Miami may have more experience hosting Super Bowls and other major national events, but it was Milwaukee chosen Monday to host the 2020 Democratic National Convention.

"I'm grateful for every finalist city for being a part of this process with us," tweeted Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, "now let's get ready for 2020." He was talking specifically about Milwaukee's glitzier rivals, Miami and Houston.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is pushing more Florida sheriffs to cooperate with the federal government to keep potentially deportable criminals behind bars until they’re handed off to immigration agents.

Following the governor’s lead, the state Senate is moving forward with a proposal that would require state and local law-enforcement agencies to “use best efforts to support the enforcement of federal immigration law.”

On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that the unemployment rate in Florida fell to 3.4 percent in January. It had been 3.5 percent in December, the last full month that Gov. Rick Scott held office in Tallahassee. DeSantis took over at the start of the second week in January. 

DeSantis showcased the state outpaced the nation when it came to job growth in the past. While the nation saw 2.1 percent job growth last year, Florida saw 2.7 percent job growth.
