Americans for Prosperity to Rick Scott: Veto Late Budget Additions

A conservative-advocacy group is telling Gov. Rick Scott it'll have his back if he vetoes projects crammed into the state budget just before the nearly $80 billion package was completed last week.

"We are making everyone aware that we are not happy with the $301 million in last-minute projects," Americans for Prosperity-Florida spokesman Andres Malave said Sunday. "AFP stands with Floridians who wouldn't be disappointed if the governor vetoed projects not beneficial to all taxpayers."

Amendment 1 Lawsuit Filed: Legislature Must Defend Its 'Land' Rationale

Insisting the Legislature has ignored Florida voters, environmental litagator Earthjustice filed suit Monday to compel lawmakers to comply with Amendment 1, Water and Land Legacy, in the state Constitution.

The suit (see attached document below) was filed in Leon County Circuit Court on behalf of the Florida Wildlife Federation, the St. Johns Riverkeeper, and the Environmental Confederation of Southwest Florida.

AFP: Florida Legislature Did Well on Tax Cuts, Killing Medicaid Expansion

On Friday night, Chris Hudson, the director of the Florida chapter of Americans for Prosperity (AFP), offered his take on the completed special session in Tallahassee, including the $79 billion budget passed by the Legislature and ensuring Medicaid expansion did not go through.

Finally, some might say mercifully, the special legislative session is done.

An outside chance remains that lawmakers might have to return to Tallahassee to address redistricting --- a challenge to congressional districts is pending in the Florida Supreme Court --- and there is a more-remote possibility that health care could bring people back to the Capitol.

But for now, lawmakers have completed their constitutional duty of passing an annual spending plan.

Don't mistake that for everybody being happy, though.

With a $78.7 billion state budget approved -- and approved unanimously in both chambers -- two white handkerchiefs fell to the fourth floor of the Capitol Rotunda Friday evening, ending the marathon 2015 Legislature, including a three-week-long special session. It now rests with Gov. Rick Scott.

Senate Gives Floridians with Unique Abilities Big Boost

The Florida Senate, on the special session's last day, improved the lot of people with unique abilities when it passed SB 2500-A, an appropriations bill that increases funding for adults and children with disabilities by more than $230 million over base funding.
 

Rick Scott Will Take Victory Lap Across Florida for Tax Cuts

With the special legislative session ending, Gov. Rick Scott will be hitting cities across the Sunshine State to promote the more than $400 million in tax cuts passed this year. 
 
Scott’s office announced on Friday that the governor will dash across Florida on Monday with scheduled visits to Fort Myers, Jacksonville, Miami, Orlando, Pensacola, St. Petersburg and West Palm Beach to showcase the tax cuts.

On Eve of Session's End, House Members Spar over Budget

The long-delayed end of the 2015 legislative process drew into view Thursday, as lawmakers prepared to pass a budget for the year that begins July 1 and leave Tallahassee after a nearly three-week special session.

In the House, members sparred over the spending plan ahead of a final vote Friday. While a 72-hour "cooling off" period prevented them from actually approving the budget until Friday evening, the chamber went ahead and finished off debate over the $78.7 billion plan.
