Your Call: Should the U.S. Sink Ryan Lochte for the Next Olympics?

August 20, 2016 - 6:00am

U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte apologized Friday for his behavior surrounding an incident at a Rio de Janeiro gas station, saying he should have been more "careful and candid" about how he described what happened after a night of partying with his teammates.

But he didn't explain why he embellished details of an encounter with armed security guards and called it a robbery, and why he left out that he and three teammates had vandalized a gas station restroom.

Your Call: Is It Time for the Clintons to Distance Themselves from Their Foundation?

August 18, 2016 - 6:00am

Though many claim the Clinton Foundation, founded 15 years ago by former President Bill Clinton, has done good work in some very poor parts of the world, others maintain the good works are a dodge for the enrichment it brings the Clintons, and at the very least will present a disturbing conflict of interest if Hillary Clinton is elected president in November.

To spell it out:

Since its founding, the foundation has supported such charitable causes as relief in Haiti, global health and schools where there were none before.

Your Call: Would the Zika Virus Keep You from South Florida?

August 5, 2016 - 12:00pm

Earlier this week federal health officials urged pregnant women to stay away from a Miami neighborhood where they discovered additional cases of Zika infection — apparently the first time the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ever advised people not to travel to a place in the continental United States.

On Thursday the CDC announced the neighborhood tested clear, but scientists would continue to keep a wary eye on it.

What Do You Think? Should Donald Trump Apologize to the Khans?

August 3, 2016 - 6:00am

Perhaps he didn't mean to, perhaps it came out wrong, but in the court of public opinion, Donald Trump has picked a fight with the grieving family of Capt. Humayun Khan, an American soldier slain while serving his country.

What Do You Think? Which Convention Touched You More?

July 29, 2016 - 6:00am

If you watched both conventions, you may be suffering from ideological and tonal whiplash.

As the Washington Post describes it, one common feature of both conventions: organizational missteps and unscheduled dissent.

What Do You Think? Did Ted Cruz Just Shoot Himself in the Foot?

What Do You Think? Did Melania 'Borrow' from Michelle?

July 19, 2016 - 9:00am

Melania Trump’s highly anticipated speech at the Republican National Convention Monday night appears to have included a nearly identical paragraph from Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.

Presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s wife was describing how her parents instilled in her values about working hard and treating people with respect.

It included phrases and even precise words that were identical to the first lady's 2008 address.
Here is the graph in question from Melania Trump's speech:

What Do You Think? Do You Predict Fireworks at the GOP Convention?

July 16, 2016 - 6:00am

Donald Trump received a major victory Thursday as delegates overwhelmingly opposed last-ditch efforts to derail his nomination.

In the wonky Rules Committee meeting in Cleveland ahead of the Republican National Convention next week, a whip team assembled by the Trump campaign worked closely with officials at the Republican National Convention to defeat anti-Trump delegates' efforts.

The RNC and Trump whip teams erupted into applause behind a sectioned-off portion of the cavernous hall when the committee adjourned, according to NBC News.

Rick Scott, Barack Obama and Bill Nelson

President Barack Obama is underwater in Florida, a state he carried twice, a new poll shows but officials holding statewide officer are in better shape.

Quinnipiac University released a poll on Thursday morning showing a majority of those surveyed--53 percent--disapprove of Obama while 44 percent approve of him. Obama creates a partisan divide with 89 percent of Democrats approving of him and 91 percent of Republicans disapproving of him. A majority of voters outside the major parties--56 percent--disapprove of Obama while 40 percent approve of him.

What Do You Think? Should Marco Go to Cleveland?

July 11, 2016 - 6:00am
Marco Rubio

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio says he'll give the Republican National Convention a miss, spending the week instead campaigning at home where he faces an August primary and surviving that, a very competitive general election.

Visible as he was during the Republican presidential debates, is he making the wrong statement to the nation and to presumptive presidential nominee Donald Trump by staying behind? You decide here, in Sunshine State News' poll.
