
Texas Sen. Ted Cruz failed to endorse Donald Trump during his speech at the Republican National Convention Wednesday night.
Instead, he offered a lofty tribute to freedom and the Constitution, adding an indictment of President Barack Obama and Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. It was obvious to the majority of delegates that Cruz isn't the least bit interested in this election, his eyes are locked in on the 2020 presidential election instead.
Under pressure to endorse Trump, Cruz threw in a line upon delivery of his speech that inched closer to an endorsement, but still stopped short. “I want to see the principles that our party stands for prevail in November.” Left conspicuously unsaid was whether Trump stands for those principles.
As soon as delegates in Cleveland's Quicken Loans Arena realized where Cruz wasn't going, they unleashed a long, loud chorus of boos. Many walked out. Some even hurled insults at him as he left the building.
