With Newt Gingrich expected to announce next week that he is suspending his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, he becomes the latest congressional insider to stumble in his pursuit of the White House.

Fox News reported on Wednesday morning that Gingrich will suspend his bid for the Republican presidential nomination on Tuesday. With five primaries this week in the Northeast, Gingrich hoped to slow down Mitt Romney, the heavy favorite for the GOP nod, and the former congressional leader focused on Delaware -- where he still placed a distant second.

Ron Paul Looks to Shine in the Lone Star State

While he has been on the Texas political stage for more than three decades, Ron Paul has not fared well there when he has made his two previous presidential bids -- but he hopes the third time will be the charm as he ramps up operations in the Lone Star State this week.

Now making his third try for the White House -- and second attempt at the Republican presidential nomination -- Paul has turned his eyes to Texas, which will bring 155 delegates to the GOP convention in Tampa come August. Texas holds its primary May 29.

The two leading Republicans aiming to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in November looked to advance their campaigns on Tuesday in very different ways.

Congressman Connie Mack, whose father held the Senate seat for 12 years before stepping down in 2000 when Nelson won it, released a radio ad on Tuesday that will run across the Sunshine State.

In the ad, Mack takes aim at President Barack Obama and Nelson on gas prices, slamming the two Democrats for opposing the Keystone XL Pipeline which would bring oil into America from Canada.

Obama and Romney in Tight Battle in Florida

Florida has been the largest swing state in recent presidential elections and a new poll from Fox News shows the Sunshine State -- and its 29 Electoral College votes -- will be up for grabs in November.

The poll of registered Florida voters has President Barack Obama leading Mitt Romney, the almost certain Republican presidential nominee, by a slim margin. Obama takes 45 percent of those surveyed while Romney, who won the Florida Republican primary at the end of January, takes 43 percent.
