Jeb Bush Backs Connie Mack in GOP Senate Contest

Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, unveiled his Hispanic Steering Committee on Wednesday which includes a number of prominent Florida Republicans -- including U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio and former Gov. Jeb Bush.

Dem-Leaning PPP Shows Obama Ahead in Florida

A new poll of registered voters from Public Policy Polling (PPP), a firm with connections to prominent Democrats, shows that Barack Obama holds a small lead over Mitt Romney in Florida.

The poll of voters in the Sunshine State shows Obama taking 50 percent while Romney follows with 46 percent -- just short of the polls margin of error of +/- 3.9 percent. A PPP poll of Florida taken back in April had Obama taking 50 percent and Romney garnering 45 percent.

Mitt Romney Tries to Make Up Ground to Obama with Hispanics

Trailing President Barack Obama among Hispanic voters, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is looking to make up ground by focusing on the Democrat incumbents record on the economy.

Earlier this week, the Romney camp unveiled a Web video responding to an ad from the Obama campaign looking to reach out to Hispanic voters. The ad insists that Hispanics have been badly hurt by the administrations policies.

The Romney camp looked to hone in on that message on Tuesday.

While he may have entered the U.S. Senate contest late, former U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon, who is seeking the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, showed this weekend that he retains solid support in his backyard with a win in a straw poll.

Weldon won the Brevard County Hob Nob straw poll in Titusville, which was sponsored by the North Brevard Republican Club, on Saturday but the leading candidate for the Republican nomination -- U.S. Rep. Connie Mack -- was not even on the ballot.

Buddy Roemer Bows Out of Presidential Race

Vowing to remain an active advocate for campaign finance reform, former Louisiana Gov. Charles "Buddy Roemer on Thursday pulled the plug on his underdog bid for the presidency.

Making campaign finance reform one of the centerpieces of his campaign, the Republican candidate had focused on making a breakthrough in New Hampshire, the first primary state. But having been left out of the debates, Roemer took less than 1 percent in the Granite State. He then set his sights on winning the nominations of Americans Elect and the Reform Party.

Business Community Offers a Split Decision in First Coast Senate Race

The business community this week offered a split decision in one of the most competitive and compelling Republican primaries in the Sunshine State -- the battle to replace term-limited state Sen. Steve Wise, R-Jacksonville.

With Wise facing term limits, three prominent Republicans -- former Rep. Aaron Bean, Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Jacksonville, and attorney Wyman Duggan -- are competing to represent parts of Nassau and Duval counties.

Bean announced on Wednesday that he had garnered the endorsement of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.
