After 10 Glorious Years, Sunshine State News and I Are Passing the Baton

The execution of Manuel Valle, convicted of murdering a police officer in Broward County in 1978, has been postponed at least one month to hear arguments over Florida's "lethal injection protocol," the Florida Supreme Court has ruled.

State Sen. Mike Fasano is calling on Gov. Rick Scott to "take immediate action" to ensure that Floridians aren't gouged by the prospective sale of a natural-gas pipeline company. In a letter to Scott, the New Port Richey Republican said he had become aware of the proposed purchase of the Florida Gulf Transmission Pipeline by reading a Sunshine State News article of July 15.

A new poll finds that Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is leading the Republican presidential pack in Florida with U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts on his heels. A poll from the American Research Group found Perry, who has yet to formally enter the race, leading in the Sunshine State with 16 percent followed by Bachmann and Romney with 15 percent each. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has also yet to enter the race, came in fourth with 13 percent. Businessman Herman Cain came in fifth taking 11 percent.

With former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlentys camp saying last week that there was little difference between their candidate and GOP rival U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, the congresswomans team came out swinging on Sunday.
