After 10 Glorious Years, Sunshine State News and I Are Passing the Baton

State College of Florida President Lars Hafners pay has grown 35 percent in the last two years. The increase puts his annual pay, before perks, at $284,000, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. And that doesnt put him in the top five for college president salaries. Here's a list of the top paying colleges for the 2010-2011 year: State college; enrollment; president's salary -- Edison State College; 12,340; $643,478.

A national Fox News poll released late Wednesday found that businessman Herman Cain has surged to the front of the pack of Republican presidential candidates. Cain leads the field of Republican hopefuls with 24 percent followed by former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts in second with 20 percent. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich takes third with 12 percent followed by two Texans--Gov. Rick Perry with 10 percent and U.S. Rep. Ron Paul with 9 percent.

Adam Putnam kicked off the 500-plus-participant Florida Energy Summit Wednesday with a promise that the state Energy Office "will not get lost as some people thought," now that it's been absorbed into the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. "Energy had ping-ponged around state departments for years," DACS Commissioner Putnam said. "It was a red-headed stepchild;now it's with a real head and we're going to make sure, starting with this summit, that we openly embrace the good work coming out of universities and from entrepreneurs and established businesses ..."
