It appeared that the George Zimmerman trial was over. Then Barack Obama emerged from his office Friday like Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow, and sure enough we are going to have another six weeks of the winter of our discontent.
In the aftermath of the acquittal of George Zimmerman, Eric Holder, Al Sharpton and Ben Jealous of the NAACP are calling on the black community to rise up in national protest.
Eric Holder dismissed America as a "nation of cowards" because we wouldn't, he argued, have a "national conversation" about race. It's a slander wrapped in a farce. We talk of race unremittingly. That's the farce. The slander is hydra-headed.
You can get agreement from almost all points on the political spectrum that the worst aspect of our political system is the presidential nomination process. It is perhaps no coincidence that it is the one part of the system not treated in the Constitution.
The central criticism of the George Zimmerman trial is that there was one. It was simply impossible to convict him of anything beyond a reasonable doubt.

Gov. Rick Scott flatly rejected ideas for the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) to tie bonuses to police officers based on the number of tickets they write.
The idea that FHP would tie officer bonuses to the number of tickets they write is absolutely outrageous and wrong, Scott said. "All state worker bonuses should be based on better not worse outcomes for the people of Florida who pay the taxes to fund state government.
Floridians paying more in tickets is not a better outcome. Period, Scott added. If this idea comes across my desk, I will reject it.

Gov. Rick Scott announced Florida's job numbers for February on Friday, revealing that the state created 32,100 private-sector jobs over the month.
According to a press release from the governor's office, this is the highest number of private-sector Florida jobs created in a single month since Scott took office.
Despite the positive growth in job numbers, the states unemployment rate for February remained at 6.2 percent, which is the lowest unemployment rate in the state since June 2008. The rate held steady from the revised January rate of 6.2 percent.

In a letter sent Thursday to 67 television stations across the state, FDP attorney Mark Herron requested the stations refuse to broadcast the ad, which criticizes former Gov. Charlie Crist for describing President Barack Obama's health care plan as "great."

Ron Paul, R-Texas, remains active in politics and, this week, he gave a shout out to a congressman from Florida. Paul announced to supporters on Wednesday that he intends to be active in the 2014 elections with his Liberty PAC to help candidates for federal office. Paul and his team are behind U.S. Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., and U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., as they run for re-election and behind Paul Brouns bid for the U.S. Senate in Georgia and Greg Brannons in North Carolina.

Gov. Rick Rick Scott announced Wednesday that Lockheed Martins mission systems and training facility in Orlando will be expanding, bringing up to 200 jobs and a capital investment of approximately $80 million.
The company currently employs nearly 7,000 in Orlando and is expanding the location due to a corporation-wide consolidation. Lockheed Martinis a global security and aerospace company that is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
